I haven’t posted an article in some time. Rest assured, I’m OK. I just have been prioritizing things ahead of the blog. Let me explain.
As you might know, last year I became interested in writing quality resumes. After coaching several people, I was asked, “what should I do about my resume?” more than once.
Although I’ve been through job transition and even had a resume prepared by an outplacement firm, I sensed my skills and knowledge were outdated. So, I embarked on a path to learn more about how to write a quality resume for today.
I took a resume writing online course through a resume writing and career coaching association. Once I finished the course, I wanted to test my knowledge, so I applied for the Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) exam. The certification process took several months and in November 2021 I was notified that I passed the exam. Phew!
Since then, I’ve been writing resumes in my spare time and really liking it. I have been getting good feedback from my clients. On a lark I entered a resume writing contest through the same association where I earned my CPRW. In April I found I out I placed second in the New Graduate Resume category! I attended the association’s conference in Florida (I know, a big sacrifice 😊 ) to learn more about the resume writing business and accept my award.
At the conference, I met some of the giants in the resume writing field. These are people who wrote the books I reference and created the courses I took or plan to take. I also met a fair number of people who are making a go of being a resume writer and interview coach.
Talking to others in the field was inspiring.
Going forward, I intend to continue to write resumes. I’m also in the process of studying for the Certified Interview Coach exam so I can help people not only get to the interview but present themselves to showcase how they are the best fit for the role in the interview.
So that’s what I’ve been up to and why I haven’t posted in a bit.
What does this mean for the Q2 Leader blog?
Q2 Leader is about being intentional about your choices so that you can engineer the future you want. Q2 Leader is also about self-development and productivity.
I believe resume writers can also benefit from the principles of the Q2 Leader. So, I am extending the community of Q2 Leader to intentionally include resume writers.
Look for more posts soon! I’m planning on sharing books I’m reading, as well as some productivity/automation tips and tricks so you can trade tedious and boring for intentional and fulfilling.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I offer a 30-minute resume review. That may be all you need to move forward with your resume. If not, I’m happy to chat with you about the next steps on your journey to finding a role that’s a great fit for you.
