Whether it is annual review time (yes, not every organization has come around to the idea of continuous feedback) or time to update my resume, I have one question:
What have I been doing??
We get caught up in the day-to-day. You may be working on several projects at work at once. Or one starts up as soon as another ends. Or your work is ongoing. At home you have plenty going on too. Whether you are raising a family, volunteering, spending time on a hobby or side business, you are busy! Taking time out to note what you’ve been working on seems impossible.
Let me encourage you.
If we take a few minutes every few weeks to update what we’ve been working on, when we arrive at the time where we need to recount all the value we’ve added, the information will be at your fingertips. You will be thanking yourself for spending a few minutes consistently every few weeks to make notes. Bye-bye overwhelm. Hello calm confidence! You’ve got this!
I’ve put together a digital accomplishments tracker. I want you to take a look at it because it will give you ideas for questions to ask yourself when you make your updates. You can choose to use the digital version, or you can use the questions and track on your own. Over the years when I’ve put in the few minutes regularly to note what’s been happening, I am much happier and confident than when I don’t.
I encourage you to track your achievements in whatever way works best for you because I know it will be a valuable investment of time that you will appreciate in the future.
