It all started over a year ago. My company had a layoff. A lot of good people suddenly found themselves in job transition. (Maybe you know what that’s like).

Actually, it started a few years before that when I was in job transition. I had been laid off after 17 years at one company. I was optimistic about finding a job. I had a positive attitude.

My problem was that I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do.

I knew certainly what I didn’t want to do, and that’s what I had been doing. But what was I qualified to do and what would I find fulfilling?

What I discovered was a little reflection goes a long way. When I took a good look at what I was good at and what I liked to do, the opportunity for a role that was a good fit presented itself.

Was being in job transition stressful? You bet. If you’ve been there you know. The uncertainty is difficult.

After I landed a job, I ended up connecting with several people who were going through job transition. I volunteered to mentor people transitioning from the military into civilian careers. And before I knew it, I was following a framework for building confidence at the start of the job transition journey.

Back to the layoff at my company. Over a year ago, we let go a lot of good people. I still had a job, but I knew the anxiety that went with losing your job and your livelihood. I wanted to do something.

I decided to create a 5 Day Challenge. Five short lessons followed by questions to get the answers needed to start the job transition journey with confidence. The answers lead to being able to articulate confidently what kind of work you really want to do. I call it Job Transition Jump Start 5 Day Challenge.

While it’s not 100% polished yet, I want to get it out in the wild so a) people can start benefitting from it and b) I can get feedback to make it even more valuable.

I’ve learned so much on this journey and it’s only just begun. Creating a Challenge is totally new for me. The information contained within will be helpful to those just starting on their job transition journey after a layoff.

If you know someone who would benefit from gaining confidence at the start of their job transition journey, and wouldn’t mind giving some feedback on the course, please share the link with them. Thanks for your support!
